DFW's growing gay gun culture: Why more LGBT Texans are empowering themselves through firearm training

In recent years, people from all walks of life — including many who never pictured themselves owning a firearm — have started seeking professional firearm training. Across Dallas, Plano, Frisco, and beyond, new shooters are showing up not out of fear, but out of a desire for confidence, responsibility, and self-reliance.

At Liberty for All Training, we’re proud to help make firearm education approachable for everyone. Here are the top four reasons we're seeing members of the DFW LGBT community come to Liberty For All for private firearm instruction, whether they're brand-new to shooting, have years of experience, or are somewhere in between:
1). Because confidence starts with knowledge
The first step toward confidence is understanding.
Professional training takes the mystery out of firearms — replacing uncertainty with practical skills and clear safety habits.
Knowing how to handle, store, and operate a firearm properly brings peace of mind. Students learn to make calm, informed decisions, whether they’re at home or on the range.
2). Because safe training is smart training
Safe habits begin in safe spaces.
Our sessions are held in controlled, comfortable environments where students can focus on learning — without pressure, judgment, or distractions.
At Liberty for All Training Co., every lesson is built around respect and patience. We teach in small private groups or one-on-one, ensuring personalized attention and a clear path toward mastery. Check out details on our different training programs here.
3). Because we want to empower ourselves
For many of us in the LGBT community, firearm education and training isn’t just about marksmanship — it’s about personal safety. The more training you have, the safer and more capable you become.
Students come to us because they want to be prepared: to understand how to protect themselves and their loved ones responsibly, to store their equipment correctly, and to stay calm in high-stress moments.
Training is an investment in yourself — like learning CPR or First Aid (which you should also do!) — because self-reliance and safety go hand in hand.
4). Because being queer doesn't mean we can't like guns too
For a long time, gun culture carried a certain stereotype — but that’s changing fast.
Today, firearm enthusiasts come from every background, gender, and community, and they’re rewriting what responsible gun ownership looks like.
Shooting sports are challenging, exciting, and rewarding. They teach focus, patience, and precision—and they’re just plain fun.
There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a skill that pushes you to improve and perform under pressure.
At L4A, we believe firearms can be both safe and enjoyable. When handled responsibly, they represent discipline, confidence, and freedom — the kind anyone can take pride in.
