As soon as you finish the online LTC course you will be able to download your certificate of training (LTC-104) instantly. This is the official Texas DPS certificate of training required to get your license to carry (LTC), also referred to as a (CHL).

4.  Pass the Live Fire / Shooting Proficiency Exam in person

During the live fire portion of the course, you will be required to demonstrate proficiency with a handgun by shooting a target at a specified distance. You will also be required to demonstrate your ability to safely handle and operate a handgun.  You will be required to shoot 20 shots from 3 yards, 20 shots from 7 yards, and 10 shots from 15 yards, for a total of 50 rounds with a required minimum score of 175 out of a possible 250 points (70%).

Not sure you'll pass? Taking a private one-on-one lesson with L4A is a great way to build the proficiency and confidence you need before your exam. And if you need help finding a live fire proctor in the DFW area, reach out to us — we're happy to refer you to one of our trusted partners.

The last step is to upload a scan of your completed LTC-104 to your user portal on the TxDPS website. At this point, all required documentation and fingerprinting will be with TxDPS for their review.
